Negotiating Panel National Democratic Front of the Philippines
We mourn the death of Ka Medardo Roda, man of the masses and proletarian leader. We convey our most heartfelt condolences to his beloved wife, Teresa Yunzon Velasquez, their seven children, to all his comrades in Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (PISTON) and his many comrades and friends in other organizations of the toiling masses.
He tilled the fields as a peasant youth, then became a taxi driver and subsequently a jeepney driver. He was active in the local organization of jeepney drivers in Metro Manila and was elected their president. In 1981, when the Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU – May First Movement) was consolidating its transport committee, PISTON was established and within months, Ka Roda became its President.

I wish to convey most heartfelt condolences to the family and close comrades of Ka Beato Lacaba. I share your deep sense of loss as I am aware of his long dedicated service to the Filipino people, especially among his colleagues and friends in the field of science and technology. I owe to Ka Beato a special debt of gratitude in his capacity as sales manager of Aklat ng Bayan for playing a key role in publishing and distributing my books.
We are all consoled and gratified that he lived a life full of meaning and accomplishment in the people's struggle for national liberation and democracy. He had been an activist of the national democratic movement since his student days. After he graduated with the degree of mechanical engineer, he was employed by an engineering firm in Marikina where he helped arouse, organize and mobilize the workers and his fellow engineers.
In behalf of the Filipino people and their revolutionary forces, the leadership and entire membership of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) pay the highest tribute to Comrade Joan Hinton, indefatigable communist, anti-revisionist and proletarian internationalist. The working class and oppressed peoples across the globe feel a deep sense of loss with the passing away of Comrade Joan last June 8. She was 89. We express our heartfelt condolences to her children, family, friends, comrades and all the people she served and loved.

The National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) extends its heartfelt condolences to Fred, Billy, and Karen and other relatives and friends of Joan Hinton on Joan's passing away last June 8.
The NDFP renders the highest honor to Comrade Joan Hinton, who served the Chinese people and revolution starting in 1948, all the way through the great years of socialist revolution and construction led by the Communist Party of China under Comrade Mao Zedong. After the death of Comrade Mao Zedong, she tirelessly continued her selfless service to the Chinese people while she, together with her comrade husband Erwin “Sid” Engst, strongly opposed the capitalist road taken by the revisionist leadership of China. Joan called the so-called reforms made under Deng Hsiao Ping as “betrayal of the socialist cause”.
